French Dressing: Laurence Doligé Trousers

via Steven Alan
There's something very '80s French style about these Laurence Doligé "Daddy" trousers. Can imagine one of the people in Mark Steinmetz' photos of Paris in 1985 wearing something like this...(white canvas sneakers optional).

Inspired by: Something in the Air (Après Mai)

(all stills via lylybye)

Set in the early '70s during the student movement in France, the film "Something in the Air" is beautifully shot and well outfitted with a great soundtrack (and perfectly messy hair). Really loving this time for Indian dresses and breezy shirts - with an army jacket like the one that is seen on the main character Gilles (below).

Inspired by: La Marinière

Marinière, striped shirts are a rather obvious piece of clothing to be inspired by -- but still deserve plenty of praise as a must-have staple in every garconne's closet. Armor Lux and Saint James are the top picks for quality, comfort, and authenticity.

(Secondhand) Leather Jacket Required

Vintage French leather perfecto jacket found at a flea market

clockwise: Dior Mohotani cat eye sunglasses (eBay), Cartier Panthère watch, Repossi Berbère rhodium-plated silver ring, Chanel lipstick in Infidèle

In keeping with the Cheap Chic Update guide to vintage shopping, we found this French leather jacket at a local flea market. By MG PARIS - Mireille Granier, this perfect perfecto is so unique it even has a handwritten label! It's probably from the early 80s since the sleeves have a slight dolman effect, although it's not dated at all. It's broken in just right, timeless, French and recycled (we're both keen on that part).
