Field Trip: Echo Park Craft Fair (Part 3) - Tavin

There were some incredible vintage treasures to be found at the fair and Tavin (owned by stylist and costumer Erin) had a thoughtfully curated selection of vintage clothing as well as a great mélange of things for the home (like soaps from Big Sur and frasada blankets from Bolivia). I really loved how everything was artfully arranged on the tables and in the racks, and Erin was really cool about me taking lots of pictures (thanks Erin)! The clothing ranged from ethereal antique white embroidered dresses to '70s Indian cotton dresses. I had my eye on a paper thin silk Balenciaga blouse designed by Nicolas Ghesquière and a quintessential piece from Sonia Rykiel, a perfectly French striped sweater - very marinière ;)  There was also a cute pair of YSL platforms but they weren't my size.

Erin has a boutique in Echo Park and I'm really looking forward to checking it out in person with my sister - It sounds amazing!

Field Trip: Echo Park Craft Fair (Part 2) - Kathleen Whitaker

Kathleen Whitaker makes really cool, perfectly minimal and lovely jewelry using solid yellow gold. My sister and I especially love her dot and dash earrings which are kind of a signature for her. It's really great how you can mix and match her pieces, actually it's encouraged. However, the ear cuff can stand alone. We're looking forward to meeting up with Kathleen and finding out more about her work!

Field Trip: Echo Park Craft Fair (Part 1) - Beatrice Valenzuela

Shoe designer Beatrice Valenzuela (her handmade footwear is pictured above) started the Echo Park Craft Fair back in 2009 and it has since grown into quite the event for southern California artisans. The last time I went was back in 2010 with my friend Rebekah (who was selling her ceramics, books and quilts) and it was at Beatrice's lovely new home. I remember thinking what a cool community of people they were and talented to boot! Even though it has gotten bigger, it has still retained that cool sense of community. Designers whom I first encountered back then, such as Clare Vivier, Kathleen Whitaker and of course Beatrice, were best kept secrets down south. Now, just a few years later, they are selling at some of the best boutiques as well as opening their own. I'm very happy for them since they really are a great group of ladies!

Thanks Beatrice for getting this (party) started!

Monday Mood Lifter: Hansel from Basel Puff Anklet Socks

One of the many talented people involved in the Echo Park Craft Fair this past weekend in Los Angeles was Hannah Byun, the designer behind Hansel from Basel. I had to grab this pair of puffy anklet socks. They're so happy and as it's put on the website, they "add punch to any outfit!" When I asked the very sweet and friendly Hannah what would look good with ankle boots and sandals, she recommended this pair. Can't wait to wear these (the cat's hair has already gotten attached to them :). My only regret is that I didn't purchase more. Glad there is an online shop, phew!
